The dust-resistant and waterproof Sony Xperia Z2 Android tablet is now available for presale.
Sony touted the Xperia Z2’s slim, lightweight design, but the company faces an uphill battle. While its Android tablets have been well-received in Europe, they have yet to attract American buyers in large numbers. Sony has tried to set itself apart from the competition by making its tablets waterproof and dust-resistant. The Xperia Z2 will hit stores May 4.
Inside the Xperia Z2 Tablet
The Xperia Z2 will boast a 10.1-inch display featuring what the company describes as Full HD Triluminos and Live Color LED technology.
This model will debut with Google Android 4.4 (KitKat). Under the hood, it will house a Qualcomm Snapdragon 901 2.3GHz quad-core processor with 3GB of RAM. The 8MP camera will feature Sony’s Exmor RS image sensor as well as a number of preloaded Xperia camera apps.
Sony is also building its Front Surround audio technology into the Xperia Z2, with noisecancelling support for better sound delivery.
The tablet is priced at $500 for the 16GB model and $600 for the 32GB version.
TabletPCReview will publish a full review of this device in the near future. In the mean time, there’s our Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet Hands-on Preview.
