Sony’s CEO Howard Stringer recently told one of Japan’s biggest newspapers that the electronics giant planned to have an Android tablet ready to ship by the end of summer. Bloomberg is reporting that Stringer told the Nikkei about the anticipated launch, and that the U.S. market would be receiving the tablet first.
When both of the aforementioned devices were covered by the media in February, they were slated to ship with a Tegra 2 processor, a large focus on Sony’s Qriocity media on-demand service, and 3G connectivity.
The S2 was originally priced at $700. However, considering major changes to pricing in the tablet industry, this number could be different today, and completely off the mark come the end of the summer. A Wi-Fi only version of the S1 was rumored to be planned to sell for $600, but the same instability of pricing applies.
