Sony’s gone a different direction with its first two tablets, creating devices that deviate from the accepted norm. Matching the uniqueness of the tablets is the first in a line of Sony teaser videos for the S1 and S2, which trades in specs and celebrities for a quiet, artistic approach.
You won’t know any more, at all, about the S1 and S2 after this video. It does not refer to the tablets by name, it does not mention Android, and there’s nothing resembling a price or release date. If you have the time to check it out, however, even though there’s a dearth of specs and information, the video is pretty sweet and well worth the two minutes it takes to watch it, and it can be found at the bottom of this page.
What the Video Doesn’t Show
Since the video won’t be providing any of the specs on the S1 and S2, here’s the rough sketch that can pieced together from information released thus far:
The S1 and S2 will both feature Android Honeycomb, most likely the most recent version available upon their release. Sony claims a fall release for the devices, and there have been whispers that one of the tablets could be available from certain European retailers as soon as September. Price information is insubstantial.
The claims to fame for both the S1 and S2 are their unique form factors. The S1 has an off-center of gravity design, which leaves it resembling a folded over magazine. It also has a slightly smaller screen than the droves of full-sized tablets out there, measuring in at 9.4-inches. The S2 features a 5.5-inch dual-screen clamshell design, and can be folded up for extra mobility and to protect the device.
You will not hear these or other details in the video below, but you will get to see a shadow city and the S2 typing by having marbles dropped on it.
