Tablet PC Buying Guide: Mother’s Day 2008

If your mom is into technology this may be the time to surprise her with that new Tablet PC she has been wanting. We have chosen a few tablets that we feel are good fits for working mom’s or even stay at home mom’s who do the day-to-day work. As we all know, Tablet PCs can really help you stay organized.

Mom should get what she deserves on her special day, so we hope this Buying Guide will help you with your decision. There are plenty of great tablets on the market, but we based our decisions on price, usability and function. There are even a few subnotebooks that slipped in because who can resist the cute Asus Eee PC or HP 2133 Mini-Note at that price.

Under $500

Asus Eee PC – The Eee PC is the perfect gift for the mom who has everything. This tiny subnotebook is user friendly, has a solid design and a price tag that won’t break the pocket book. It uses a Linux based OS that Asus has customized themselves, has a 7" screen and only weighs 2lbs. The Eee can even be tethered to your cell phone for Internet access on the go. HP 2133 Mini-Note – The 2133 Mini-Note is a sleek subnotebook, similar to the Eee PC. It has more keyboard space though and would be great for the mom who travels a lot for work or maybe takes night classes and needs it for college. HP Pavilion tx2000 – The tx2000 is a great tablet. It has a touchscreen with a Wacom pen. The tx2000 is great for taking notes, giving presentations or just watching movies. After all it is considered an entertainment tablet. It has Altec Lansing speakers, a mini-remote control and clear display. Any mom would be happy with this fully-functional convertible notebook that is nice to the piggy-bank. Buy the tx2000 from HP.
Fujitsu LifeBook U810 – The LifeBook U810 is a compact Tablet PC that fits anywhere. The screen is small but functional. You can check email, listen to MP3s, browse the Web or take pictures. Perfect for that soccer mom who has to stay organized and keep on schedule. She can also send pictures to friends and family or use the webcam to stay in contact. It works for the business mom to because this sleek tablet is great for traveling weighing a mere 1.56 lbs. Buy the LifeBook U810 from Fujitsu.
Gateway C-141x – The Gateway C-141x is a solid tablet. Great for mother’s getting out of college and into the workforce or those mom’s still in college busy taking notes. Lenovo ThinkPad X61 – The ThinkPad X61 is a great tablet. All in all, it covers everything. Solid design, user friendly and fully-functional. You can download pictures, write papers, edit documents, take notes, browse the Web and just about everything. It has a fast processor and can be configured to your liking in terms of RAM and hard drive. Every business woman wants this Tablet PC for the office. It is lightweight, has great battery life and is still reasonably priced and with that durable finish it will last. Buy the ThinkPad X61 from Lenovo.
Toshiba Portege M700 – The Portege M700 is a business class tablet just like the ThinkPad X61. The mom who has to much on her plate will love this tablet. It has great battery life and an LED backlight screen that is beautiful. The 12.1" screen also has optional touch capability and anti-glare display for indoor/outdoor viewing. Now you know every mom on-the-go wants this tablet. They can plan PTA meetings while watching the baseball game before getting their notes together for work. Overall a solid tablet, which will last for years to come. Buy the Portege M700 from Toshiba.

 

Whatever your mom’s taste is there are plenty of Tablet PCs and UMPCs on the market to fit her needs.
