A recent report from online payment company Adyen indicates consumers are turning to their tablets to make high-value purchases online.
The Dutch company, which handled $14 billion in mobile payments last year, broke down its data of high-value payments made through a mobile browser or app and found that increasingly consumers are turning away from their PCs and taking out their tablets instead.
The study looked at five key types of transactions, including travel, retail, digital goods, ticketing and gaming. Consumers spent more money via tablets on four of the five types of transactions, with the only holdout being travel.
According to Adyen, merchants with a proper mobile app or site with a mobile version have a 10-15 percent higher conversion rate on average than merchants who just run a desktop site.
When looking at the breakdown between smartphones and tablets, smartphones saw a higher volume of transactions but consumers spent more money on tablet transactions.
