Targus, Inc., which made its name developing cases and protective gear for laptops and notebooks, now turns its attention to the Apple iPad with the debut of a number of products.

Targus Z CaseThe first is the Targus iPad Screen Protector, which Targus designed to reduce the fingerprints and smudges that litter every touchscreen device, but plague tablet PCs since they usually offer a virtual keyboard. The protector film fits over the iPad surface and reportedly employs a microstructure makeup to resist fingerprints and trap oils and paper fibers that over time cause the screen to appear cloudy, says Carolyn Perrier, vice president of accessories product management and marketing at Targus.

These exclusive micro-structures also reduce glare so you can see your screen inside or outside, and when combined with the properties of the film, it creates a scratch proof surface, she adds.

A special adhesive on the film that prevents bubbles and peeling, which can be annoying with most film protectors designed for computers and smartphones. The Screen Protector is pre-cut for a precise fit on the iPad.

The company has also released a number of protective cases for the iPad, including:

  • The Z-Case, which is sleekly designed with a protective hard-shell structure and leather exterior. A soft colored lining on the inside delivers an appealing contrast to the exterior and keeps the iPad scratch free. It is priced at $54.99;
  • The Targus Leather Sleeve for iPad, that provides a soft, protective top grain leather exterior and twill lined interior as well as magnetic closure, priced at $49.99;
