It seems as though Tatung has joined in on the fun, with their new UMPC hybrid. This UMPC hybrid/mutant runs Windows Mobile just like HTC’s Athena.
Sure, it says UMPC up top, but a quick look at the screen shows it’s running Windows Mobile. Looks like there will be some competition at CES next month, which is when we are hoping to find out more information on Tatung’s UMPC.
They’re not officially Ultra-Mobile PCs in the Microsoft sense of the name, since they don’t run the Tablet PC operating system. Even though that limits their functionality in one sense it does mean that the extended battery life and “instant on” functionality are carried over from the Mobile OS. Some users prefer these options over the limited functionality and can handle the compromise.
Thanks to Gizmodo for the tip.
