TiVo announced a new device during the 2012 NCTA Cable Show that delivers TiVo content to other TVs in your house and on mobile devices such as the iPad or iPhone: the TiVo Stream.
The Stream, which was also demoed during private meetings at CES 2012, is an external device that works with the TiVo Premiere or Premiere Q DVR and delivers content to tablets and smartphones, more specifically, the iPad and iPhone. The function will be limited to content recorded onto the Tivo and devices on the same network.
There are some fun features, however. The TiVo Stream will enable streaming shows simultaneously to other devices without interruption. According to the company, this will be the first product to do so. The Stream will also be able to download shows locally to the iPad for offline viewing.
TiVo’s CEO, Tom Rogers, announced earlier this year that the TiVo Stream would launch “by the end of the summer.” There is no word on pricing
