Today Toshiba unveiled its newest Android and Windows tablet options to the world. Both will be available in early July, and both will fuse portability and affordability into consumer-friendly packages.
The Excite Go 7-inch Android tablet will feature a 1024×600 display, a quad-core Intel Atom processor, 16 GB storage and Android 4.4 KitKat. The device also will utilize wireless display support for streaming directly to an external screen, and come installed with a full version of the OfficeSuite Pro productivity app. At just 12.5 ounces, it will be just slightly heavier than the Apple iPad mini 2, but still light enough to take almost anywhere.
The Toshiba Excite Go will retail for just $110.
Toshiba’s newest Windows 8.1 tablet offerings are the 8-inch and 10-inch Encore 2 tablets. These tablets both will feature HD 1280×800 displays, quad-core Atom processors and Dolby Digital Plus audio. Both can be configured with up to 64 GB of onboard storage, and will feature a microSD card slot and MicroUSB 2.0 input for connecting external storage and charging. The tablets will also feature a mini-HDMI port and wireless display support for streaming to external HDTV screens.
The Encore 2s will have both an HD webcam for video chatting, as well as a 5 MP rear-facing camera with auto-focus and Toshiba’s TruCapture app, which works with the integrated cameras to capture and correct images of whiteboards, blackboards and books in the classroom for improved legibility. Both tablets will also offer a 1-year subscription to Microsoft Office 365 Personal.
The 8-inch Encore 2 will be made available starting at $200, and the 10-inch Encore 2 will be made available starting at $270.
