An eagle-eyed reader managed to spot this preliminary price tag stuck onto one of Wal-Mart’s shelves. If it’s a Photoshop job, it’s pretty good. That means that Wal-Mart will soon be carrying the newest competitor in the increasingly crowded tablet space – the webOS-powered HP TouchPad.
A reader sent the picture into Engadget, replete with a price for the dual-core, 10-inch slate. At $599, it’s expected that the TouchPad will launch with 32GB of flash storage space, competing directly with the similarly configured iPad. This isn’t the first time Wal-Mart’s been named for showing their cards a bit early – it isn’t even the first time for the TouchPad.
If anything, the pricing seems to be solidified at this point, with most manufacturers taking a page out of Apple’s book. As the frequency of leaks increase, it seems likely that the launch date is imminent, aligning nicely with the earlier report of a June launch date. We’ll give you our full impressions when it hits, but until then, be sure to check out our hands on with HP’s TouchPad.
