Now owners of the WD My Book Live drive can access their stored content via a mobile device as Western Digital has released the WD 2go mobile app for iOS and Android platforms.
The app turns the drive into a personal storage cloud network and enables users to connect to the server via the Internet using a Wi-Fi network or cellular connection. The user can then stream music, video, photos, documents, presentations and other digital content stored on the drive to their mobile device.
If an owner of WD My Book Live wishes to grant multiple users access via different accounts, they must create a new user account, and enable remote access on that account. This process generates a 12-digit access code, which is then entered into the WD 2go app.
To support the mobile app, WD My Book Live needs to run the latest firmware, which users can update for free. In addition to the free WD 2go app, Western Digital offers a premium version, called WD 2go Pro. The advanced program includes features like clipping, automatic sync, content sharing and additional security. These extras will cost $2.99 for the Pro edition.
