OnLive launched an app for its cloud gaming service last year for Android smartphones and tablets following an unveiling at E3 2011, in which it also showed off an impressive iPad app. We reviewed the OnLive Android app and noted its potential to bring AAA gaming titles to a platform dominated by casual games. But the iPad app is still MIA. So where is it?
Apparently, Apple has yet to approve the app for its App Store. TouchArcade first broke the story after speaking with the OnLive folks at E3 2012. OnLive reps claim they are working hard at getting the app approved, and TouchArcade speculates that Apple’s reluctance to approve the app could have much to do with the actual OnLive service. As originally envisioned, Apple would not be able to retain control of any in-app purchases, as all would be handled through the OnLive service. Also, OnLive was also looking at releasing a Bluetooth iPad gamepad for the app (a necessary addition, according to our review), and that may have run afoul of Apple’s anti-button iPad philosophy.
