Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 is now ready for the first Android Honeycomb tablet, as the Motorola Xoom will be the second major device to officially receive the update following the ASUS Transformer Prime.
The over-the-air update is now available for American Wi-Fi Xooms, with the international and LTE versions possibly slated to receive the update soon.
The Android Ice Cream Sandwich update is a move by Google to reduce device fragmentation and merge both the most recent tablet and smartphone versions of the OS, Honeycomb and Gingerbread, respectively. Xoom owners should see noticeable UI tweaks, color scheme, the ability to grab screenshots natively, and the ability to close apps from the recent-apps navigation icon. Apps developed for Ice Cream Sandwich will port easily between both smartphones and tablets, again helping to reduce fragmentation.
