Microsoft has been talking about the next version of its operating system for some time, and has now given a Windows 10 Fall Creators Update release date: October 17. This will deliver enhanced Windows Inking, new OneDrive features, an improved Windows Defender, and more.

Windows 10 Fall Creators Update Release Date

Windows Inking

Windows Inking will get new features, including “Smart Ink”, which will automatically clean up drawings, turning boxes into squares, for example. In addition, users will be able to annotate PDFs.

OneDrive Files On-Demand will enable users to access files stored on this cloud service as if they were stored locally.

Enhancements are coming to Windows Defender, as Microsoft’s current version is inferior to third-party malware-protection services.

Augmented Reality

After the huge success of last year’s Pokémon Go, augmented reality is a hot technology. The Windows 10 Fall Creators Update will include Windows Mixed Reality, which “fully immerses you in the experience”, as it requires a headset. These headsets will start at $299, and will also debut Oct. 17.
