Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 8 on ARM (WOA) will offer a similar experience to Windows 8 on x86 devices, and that WOA will feature a desktop mode. In addition, WOA will support a desktop Microsoft Office suite that includes Excel, Word, Powerpoint, and OneNote. It will not be Metro style, and the WOA office apps will be full featured, power efficient and touch friendly, with complete cross document compatibility. According to a blog post announcing the news, WOA will not support “running, emulating or porting, x86/64 desktop apps.”

Through the desktop, WOA users will still have access to IE 10 and File Explorer. It will also include support for USB devices and file copying “that will just work.”

Microsoft claimed that WOA is still in development and test devices will be made available through Microsoft and its hardware partners “around the next milestone release for Windows 8 x86/64.”
