Though it may not come as a total surprise, an official Xoom 2 announcement may be on the way. Motorola and Verizon Wireless have sent out invitations to a press conference in New York City scheduled for October 18 at noon, asking attendees to join them “to celebrate the next big innovation from Motorola Mobility.”
Shortly thereafter, Motorola followed up the invitations with a teaser video that doesn’t reveal much, but suggests that we’ll be hearing about four new devices from the company in the near future, as it mentions “four reasons to get excited” in the description. So beyond the Xoom 2, there has been plenty of speculation as to what other devices we may see unveiled, possibly including the Droid RAZR, the Xoom 2 Media Edition, or a Droid HD.
This news of these announcements come not long after Verizon finally began doling out the 4G upgrades to its current Xoom models, even though the upgrades were initially supposed to be offered within 90 days of the Xoom’s debut. Regardless, at this point consumers on the fence about buying a Xoom may want to wait it out and see what Motorola’s next tablet offering is like, as it will most likely come with 4G connectivity straight out of the box in addition to more powerful specs.
