XP Service Pack 2 w/ Tablet PC Enhancements Due This Week
Editor’s Note: The final and complete version of the Windows XP Service Pack 2 which contains numerous enhancements for Windows XP Talbet PC Edition is expected to be released for public download sometime this week. Although it was originally expected in June, the highly-anticiapated update is soon to be available as a free download for all Windows XP users. For those folks who were too chicken (and we don’t blame you!) to download the beta version, the final “safe” version is coming.
We of course recommend that when you install any major OS update that you back up your important files as there is never a guarantee that the update will be “smooth sailing”. In a related story from Austrailia’s mtekk.com, further comments and notes have been made by the author who has already worked with the update…
Windows XP Service Pack 2 arrives with a whimper!
It looks like Windows XP Service Pack 2 has been released – but is currently available for download only to MSDN subscribers. This is a much-needed and welcome update, both for the new security features as well as in-built Bluetooth capabilities, Tablet PC enhancements, the usual range of fixes, as well as incremental improvements to the Operating System.
It stands to reason that we’ll see a publicly available download within the next week – although I’d hate to lay solid odds on it.
I’ve previously tested Release Candidate 1 and Release Candidate 2, and was happy with the results. Naturally with Service Packs it’s often better to hang back a little and wait to see if any major issues arise, however people like myself will, of course, be downloading this one as soon as it’s made generally available. I’ll be sure to note any particular issues that arise…
