Amazon Standing Leather Case for Fire HD 6 Review

Folio tablet cases are a good compromise: They protect the valuable device without adding too much bulk and inconvenience. Amazon offers one for the Fire HD 6 — the Standing Leather Case ($39.99) is made of superior materials and can also serve as a stand for the small tablet.

Build and Design

This case solidly holds the Fire HD 6 in a plastic tray that protects the back and sides, and a flap acts as a cover for the screen. The inside of the front flap is lined with a microfiber material so it doesn’t scratch the display.

Amazon Standing Leather Case for Fire HD 6 Front ViewThe Standing Leather Case can protect the tablet and its display from bumps and blows, saving it from damage in some cases. But it’s not a rugged case, and it’s certainly not waterproof. A Fire HD 6 being used by a child will probably need more protection than this case can provide.

With “Leather” in its name, it’s obvious what much of the exterior of this product is made of, and as a result it looks very professional, especially the black version. It’s also available in blue, yellow, red, and white to match the colors the tablet comes in.

At 0.66 lbs., the Fire HD 6 is somewhat heavy for its size, and the Standing Leather Case adds a bit to that: 0.23 lbs. That brings the total to 0.89 lbs. While a bit more than ideal, the tablet and case are still easy to hold for long periods of time while being used as an ebook reader.

The case adds minimal size, as it’s tightfitting and has no wasted bulk.

This accessory’s front flap is held closed with magnets. The Fire HD 6 can tell when the cover is opened and will respond by turning the display on. Closing it will also deactivate the screen. This convenient feature makes the power button nearly superfluous.

When it’s closed, this case covers the volume buttons on the left side of the tablet, but it has been designed so that the volume can be adjusted through the case without needing to open it.

Amazon Standing Leather Case for Fire HD 6 as a StandWhen the flap is flipped around all the way to the back, it is again held in place with magnets. One of the few drawbacks of this item is that the flap can block the camera in this position.

The front flap on the Standing Leather Case can be folded in such a way that it can prop the Fire HD 6 up in either portrait or landscape mode, which is very handy when watching videos or talking to someone via Skype.

Thanks to the built-in magnets, it makes a surprisingly stable stand — It can stand up to a certain about of bumping and jarring without falling over.

The Amazon Standing Leather Case for the HD Fire 6 is a good option for those who want a case for their tablet that brings moderate protection while also looking good.

The list price is almost $40 but it can be found online for about $30. Even with the discount, it a relatively expensive option, especially considering that the tablet sells for $99, but quality leather cases don’t come cheap.
