The Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 is is a good value at $379. It stands up quite well in competition with the HTC Nexus 9 ($399.99) and Apple iPad Air ($399.99).

The slim, light-weight design of this tablet is a real plus, as well as its beautiful screen, excellent performance, long battery life, and quite good camera. The major downside is the slightly aggressive marketing of Amazon’s website and services that are built in, as well as the lack of a microSD card slot.
